There is a Safety Color Code for Marking Physical Hazards. However, these specifications are extremely limited in scope and are not designed to provide direction on the use of colors for floor marking.
In general, red should be the basic color for the identification of fire protection equipment and apparatus, containers of flammable liquids, stop buttons and electrical switches used for emergency stopping of equipment. Yellow should be the basic color to designate caution and to mark physical dangers.
As for the lines used to designate hallways, they can be of any color as long as the area considered as hallway space is clearly defined. Lines can be made up of points, squares, strips or continuous lines. Recommended aisle marking width ranges from 2″ to 6″.
You should use as few colors as possible to make it easier for your employees to remember the meaning of each color and reduce the amount of floor marking products needed.
The attached color guide will help you have consistent floor marking in your work areas.
